Description:
If you are wanting to branch out and experiment with silversmithing, you’ll love this entry level class that is the perfect marriage of beadwork and metal fabrication. Novice metalsmiths will learn to create a beautiful hand-forged sterling silver necklace of hammered links alternating with wire-wrapped beads, and complete the piece with a hand-forged clasp. Mastering these versatile skills will expand your creative possibilities and give you the confidence to further explore working with metal.
Students will Learn:
Learn how to hand forge sterling silver, hammering techniques, link making, chain assembly, wrapped-loop bead linking, clasp making, finishing, filing, sanding, and polishing. Confidence with introductory metal fabrication techniques and exploration of design options will be covered; along with tool selection, use and care, and safety in the studio.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Instructor will provide tools for student use. Students are encouraged to bring any jewelry tools they may have, including ball peen hammer, metal files, and anvil or bench block.
Pliers:
Roundnose, needlenose.
Materials in Kit:
Sterling silver wire, assorted beads, polishing paper, polishing cloth, instructions.
Limit:
One seat per person per class.
