Description:
Art jewelry and fine jewelry collide in this funky take on a classic style. Prong settings are not just for fine gemstones. Mastering the techniques in hand fabricating a custom setting means you can create the perfect showcase for a rough stone in its natural state. Create a sterling basket-style pendant with a beautiful prong-set mini druzy geode in this fun class. This technique can easily be scaled and adapted to any rough or natural element you want to feature without changing its nature. Additional session offered Monday afternoon, June 3 (B192350).
Students will Learn:
Learn a simple way to create a functional, basket-style prong setting for an odd-shaped rough stone. Students will gain skills in multi-part soldering, professional finishing, and stone setting as they create this unique and versatile pendant mounting.
Prerequisites:
Must be comfortable with soldering.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Bench pin, flush-cut wire cutters, metal files, safety glasses, terry-cloth towel, chain or cord for completed pendant.
Pliers:
Needlenose, roundnose.
Materials in Kit:
Sterling silver wire, mini geode, finishing paper, polishing cloth, instructions, studio consumables (butane, pickle, solder, flux).
Limit:
One seat per person per class.
