By Alex Roder of Kennewick, WA. 2019 BeadDreams Grand Prize winner in the Finished Jewelry category sponsored by Fire Mountain Gems and Beads

Welcome to the Annual BeadDreams International Jewelry Artistry Awards presented by Bead&Button. This will be our 20th year of awarding exceptional work in jewelry making across the globe! To celebrate this special milestone, we are offering a reduced-price entry fee of $35 -- $20 off our usual entry fee -- and we will accept work created during the past 20 years (since 2000). Please read our Rules and Eligibility section closely for these and other updates. We are eager to see your entries!

Once again this year, the categories for each prize are Finished Jewelry, Objects and Accessories, and Young Beader. Finalists will be displayed at the Bead&Jewelry Expo from Thursday, June 4, through Sunday, June 7, 2020, on the third floor of the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, WI. Award ribbon placement will take place on Friday, June 5, 2020. Winners will also be featured in the October 2020 issue of Bead&Button magazine.

  2. All work entered in the competition must be original. To mark our 20th anniversary we will accept any work produced since these awards were launched in 2000. Work that was previously awarded a prize is not eligible to win again, but you may submit work that was designated a finalist.
  3. The non-refundable entry fee is required for each entry. For this year only we are reducing the entry fee by $20, to $35 per entry.
  4. The preliminary jurying will be based on the images provided during the entry process. Please do not send the physical entry until notified by the jurying team.
  5. Bead&Button reserves the right to reclassify the category of an entry.
  6. Entries can be the work of a single person or collaboration by two or more people.
  7. The deadline to enter is April 6, 2020.
  8. Maximum size (including any necessary display structure): 24W x 16H x 32L inches (61 x 41 x 81 centimeters). Bead&Button reserves the right to exclude large pieces (wider and higher than three feet) from the BeadDreams exhibit at the Show if space constraints, handling issues, and/or security concerns present an issue.
  9. Bead&Button will notify you of your acceptance status via email by April 17, 2020. At that time, we will provide the shipping address and ask finalists to send entries. All accepted pieces must be received no later than May 1, 2020. Although we encourage you to send display materials with your entry, Bead&Button reserves the right to display pieces as best suits the needs of the Bead&Button Show.
  10. International participants are responsible for all brokerage fees, duties and taxes. Kalmbach Media will not accept delivery on packages that require customs duty to be paid.
  11. All accepted entries (United States and International) will be required to provide a printed return shipping label included with your entry. (International participants, for more information please consult your nation's customs officials.) If you are unable to provide a return-shipping label, you will need to provide a credit card or PayPal information to pay for shipping before your entry is returned. Entries will not be returned if a shipping label is not included with shipment or you do not have a credit card or a PayPal account to pay for return shipping.
  12. Include suggested instructions for display, special handling, or shipping requirements inside the shipping box.
  13. It is the entrant’s responsibility to provide any required insurance to cover the entry shipment to us, the return, its display at the Show, and its time at the Kalmbach offices. While Bead&Button will use every precaution to protect and safeguard each item while in our offices or at the Show, Bead&Button is not responsible for any damages.
  14. Kalmbach Media, the Bead&Button Show, and Bead&Button magazine retain the right to use entry photos and photos taken in our studio in any lawful way, including but not limited to, publicity, publications, electronic media, etc., with full credit to the entrant.
  15. Items are scheduled for return by August 28, 2020. If you need to have your accepted entry returned before then, email beaddreams@beadandbutton.com. If you are attending the Bead&Button Show, you may arrange to pick your work up at the close of the show.

Judging and Awards

  1. The editors of Bead&Button magazine and a panel of qualified judges will select the competition finalists.
  2. Before the start of the 2020 Bead&Button Show, a team of judges will select up to 15 preliminary winners in each category. Finalists will then be asked to ship the physical entry to Bead&Button for display and final judging.
  3. Finalist entries will be displayed at the Bead&Jewelry Expo from Thursday, June 4, through Sunday, June 7, 2020, on the third floor of the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, WI. Artists retain all rights and ownership of their work and do not need to be present to win.
