Janet M. Falk

Janet M. Falk Jan likes to bead weave, but she really loves to felt, mostly direct wet felting. She dabbled in many fiber techniques until taking a Carol Cypher class in needle felted jewelry. Enjoying it, but wanting quicker gratification, she taught herself wet felting from a library book. That technique grabbed her and the entire world of wet felting has held her captive ever since. The magic of transforming wool fibers into creative art wearables never ceases to amaze her. Jan has taught children, adults, and seniors in school, city recreation centers and senior centers, at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival, the Racine Art Museum, and Madison Olbrich Gardens. She is happy to return to teach at BeadandButton for the another year.

Jan has exhibited in local shows and her feltwork has been accepted in juried shows including Warped Milwaukee, and the first Wisconsin Fiber Biennale. She continues to take workshops from state, national, and international felting artists, and continues to combine felting with other media. There is always more to learn.

Jan received her B.A. in Art from Alverno College. She taught K-12 art, full and part time, for over 25 years. She lives in Milwaukee with her husband and enjoys visiting their children and grandchildren, traveling, and gardening. Her goal for her students is to encourage them to play with color and gently guide them to success. See more of her work on her website.
