Description:
This class offers great soldering and ring-forming practice for aspiring metalsmiths. Solder using ready-made tube settings and learn how to tube-set gemstones. Students will get to try out the ring-forming tool that makes rings quickly and smoothly.
Students will Learn:
Learn best practices for ring fabrication, experiment with hammers and punches to create textures, and gain confidence with the torch. Students can try our small mixed-gas (propane/oxygen) torch as a step up from the butane torch
Prerequisites:
Basic metalwork and soldering skills.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Bench block, bench pin, jeweler's saw, metal ruler, 2/0 saw blades, metal ruler with millimeters, ultra fine-tip sharpie, nylon head hammer. Optional: Optivisor if needed. Instructors will have extras of all required tools to share, if needed.
Pliers:
Chainnose, flatnose without grooves, flat half-round.
Materials in Kit:
3 x 2 mm sterling wire, ready-made tube settings, garnet, topaz, peridot.
Limit:
One seat per person per class.
