Additional Information
Description:
Rustic and weathered, this dimensional ring is a metaphor for our lives -- exteriors marked by life, gilded and made beautiful to the best of our ability, with our true treasures hidden inside. Over the course of two days, students will use a variety of techniques to create and modify texture on sterling silver and embellish it with 24k gold. Then students will build an elevated prong setting, and choose representative treasures to tuck away inside before mounting it on a hand-fabricated wide textured band.
Students will Learn:
Learn how to roll print metal using a rolling mill; how to create additional visual interest using a jeweler’s saw, hammers, and a torch. A variety of fabrication and embellishment techniques will be covered, including keum boo (adding 24k gold to sterling silver), building and finishing a unique elevated prong setting, tube setting, adding gold granules, and how to create and size a wide ring band.
