Description:
This piece is a pendant worn as a necklace and is actually a vessel with a stopper. Students will be introduced to some terms and directives that are specific to the instructor’s teaching of herringbone stitch. Primarily increasing and decreasing will be taught and used to create this 3D vessel. Students will experience combining the art of beading with the art of sculpting as the beadwork itself has to be manipulated as the vessel progresses in order to accomplish the desired shape. Students will also learn (or use) the spiral rope herringbone stitch for the neck strap.
Students will Learn:
Students will focus on tubular herringbone stitch started from a ladder foundation. The primary increasing and decreasing will be taught in this class, and by increasing and then decreasing, students will form this 3D piece. Students will also learn or use the spiral rope herringbone stitch for the neck strap and work basic fringe techniques to adorn the bottom of the vessel.
Prerequisites:
Students must have a working knowledge of needle and thread beading such as peyote stitch or brick stitch, and an openness to follow specific directions.
Project completion:
Project will not be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
#11 beading needles, 18-in. beading pad (without nap). scissors, task lamp.
Materials in Kit:
Aiko cylinder beads, 11/0 accent beads, a variety of glass beads, clasp.
Limit:
One seat per person per class.
