Additional Information
Be honest -- what is the first thing you do when you pick up a piece of jewelry? Turn it over and look at the back, right? Nevertheless, many of us tend to neglect the backs of our pieces, or at best file and polish them smooth. In this technique-packed class, each student will design and construct a pendant out of silver metal clay, featuring a beautiful cabochon which will be set in a soldered bezel setting -- the back of the pendant will be at least as attractive as the front!
Students will Learn:
Students will focus on design: inspired by the designs on the stone, each student will cut or carve a design into the clay (faux piercing) so that the stone will be visible from the back, thus unifying the design. After the backplates are fired, students will solder on a bezel and set the stone. Each pendant will be an individual work of art -- your stone’s secret will be the beautiful design that hides behind it!
Familarity with metal clay is helpful; soldering experience, or the desire to learn this skill.
