Description:
Make a fingerful of stylish sterling silver stackers – three with tube-set gemstones and two with terrific forged textures.You’ll fabricate with square or rectangular sterling silver wire. This class offers great soldering and ring-forming practice for aspiring metalsmiths – and you’ll get access to our “secret” weapon ring-forming tool!
Students will Learn:
Learn best practices for production-style ring fabrication, how to set a stone in a pre-fabricated tube setting, experiment with hammers to create textures, and gain confidence with the torch. Beginners will get experience using a small mixed-gas (propane/oxygen) torch used in many professional jewelry studios.
Prerequisites:
Basic metals fabrication and some soldering experience.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Bench block, bench pin, jeweler's saw, metal ruler, 2/0 saw blades; ultra-fine tip Sharpie; safety glasses, Optivisor or other magnification, if needed for soldering, if needed. Optional: Ring mandrel, nylon-head mallet, jewelers loupe. Instructors will have extras of all required tools to share.
Pliers:
Chainnose, flatnose standard, flat/half round.
Materials in Kit:
Sterling silver wire, sterling silver tube settings, semiprecious gemstones.
Limit:
One seat per person per class.
