Description:
This is an excellent project for developing confidence and finesse with the jeweler’s saw as you pierce and saw an intricate design in a backplate using a very fine saw blade. You’ll learn how to fabricate a tube setting from scratch, using thick-walled tubing and cutting a seat for a large gemstone using a setting bur. The unusual bail is made from a large jump ring and tubing pulls it all together.
Students will Learn:
Learn sawing and piercing techniques; how to fabricate a tube setting; develop confidence and skill in forming thick wire to frame the pendant as you will be soldering the frame pieces into place.
Prerequisites:
Basic jewelry fabrication experience, including some soldering, sawing, and filing.
Project completion:
Project will be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Bench block; bench pin; flush-cut wire cutters; jeweler's saw; metal files; metal ruler; pointed permanent marker; plastic hammer; scissors; jeweler’s loupe; 320 and 400 grit sandpaper or sanding sticks; flat jewelry file set (Swiss 3 and 5 cut); half-round jewelry file (4 cut); diamond-coated mini file set; 4/0. 6/0 saw blades; Optivisor or other magnification, if needed; steel ring mandrel or other shaping and forming tools; task light. Instructors will have extras of all required tools to share, if needed.

Chainnose, flatnose standard.

4 x 1.5 mm rectangular sterling silver wire, 20-gauge sterling silver sheet, 6.5 mm extra heavy wall sterling silver tubing, 7.25 mm sterling silver tubing, 9 mm sterling silver jump ring, 6.3 mm cylinder bur, 6 mm stone setting bur, 6 mm Paraiba blue topaz.
