Additional Information
Learn how to make a unique and lovely kumihimo bracelet with endless possibilities for design variations. Using a blend of Toho hex, demi, round, and magatama beads, students will focus on designing patterns for the bracelet. Then you will master the adaptation of the traditional Anda-gumi kumihimo braid, worked on the square plate. In the weeks before the class, the instructor will work online with students to define colorways and patterns, so that the class can focus on technique and braiding.
Students will Learn:
Learn the instructor’s adaptation of the traditional kumihimo Anda-gumi braid for beads. The class will focus on controlling the tension of the braid for consistent construction, bead layout for good pattern design, and adapting odd-shape beads to fit into the structure of the braid. The goal of the class is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to further experiment with this unique and interesting braid.
Project completion:
Project will not be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
Beading mat, clear nail polish, colored pencils, magnifiers, scissors, tape measure, task lamp.
Materials in Kit:
Square braiding plate, Toho amiet beading thread, Toho Takumi starter beads, magnetic clasp, assorted Toho beads, comprehensive instructions, scaffold wire. A portion of the kit is underwritten by TOHO Beads.
