Flowers pop off the bead and create a beautiful arrangement of floral art in glass. Step-by-step instructions with hands-on lessons and demos will enable students to make their own 3-D floral creations. Class involves the use of a torch with open flame and gases. Wear safety (didymium) glasses, cotton clothing, and closed-toe shoes. Tie long hair back.
Students will Learn:
The class will focus on painting with encased glass stringers, creating 3-D glass flowers, and enhancing your bead with surface designs of vines, leaves, and flowers. The emphasis is on controlling glass, planning your designs, and advancing your skills.
Lampworking safety, glass bead making - intermediate to advanced levels, stringer making, and some encasing.
Project will be completed in class

Bead release; graphite stump shaper; personal lampworking tools; didymium glasses; striker or matches; graphic or brass marver, butter knife (non-serrated) shapers, etc.; 1/8” mandrels (4-8), mandrel holders; 3/16-in. or 1/8-in. mandrel for vessel; glass nippers; frit or reduction frit, spoon for frit; 1-2 sheets silver foil; metal soup can; paper; pen. Glass rods: Moretti/Effretre, Vetrofond or CIM glass, 104 COE to include 5 mm (or larger) clear (3-4), 5 mm transparent black T-064 or an opaque black (4-5), 5 mm opaque white P-264 (3-5), 5 mm transparent dark grass green T-024 (3-4), 5 mm transparent sage green T-019 or CIM Slytherin (3-4), 5 mm transparent pale green or CIM Mojito (2-3), 5 mm transparent medium topaz (1-2), 5 mm rubio oro S-456 (1-2), 5 mm transparent ink blue T-058 or CIM’s version (1), 5 mm transparent medium purple like Moretti’s amethyst purple or CIM’s Berry Mist or Simply Berry (1), light gray opaque (1), medium gray opaque (1). Optional: 2 mm Effetre/Moretti opaque white glass stringers P-204-S (1).
