This pendant is a mixed-media combination of a silk textile constructed bead, encased within a beaded structure of repeating motifs. The Samarkand pendant is worked in a combination of stitches and has a central pendant, bail and tassel, and the design includes a beaded chain.
Students will Learn:
How to create a stitched silk sleeve and add a lining to form a textile bead over which the beadwork will be applied. Students will work through three separate elements and link them to create the beaded casing for the silk bead; create a decorative fringe and a beaded chain.
Students should be comfortable with the concept of working with mixed-media and need to be competent beaders.
Project will not be completed in class
Minimum Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Supplies to Bring:
#11 beading needles, beading mat, beading thread. scissors, task lamp.
Materials in Kit:
11/0, 15/0 seed beads; 2 mm, 3 mm glass pearls; cotton quilt wadding; 15 mm diameter plastic tube (4 cm long), 15 x 15 cm shot-woven pure silk fabric.
One seat per person per class.
