PREVIEW THIS YEAR'S CLASS SELECTION
Learn how to make two different styles of earring wires as well as a minimum of six pairs of earrings. You will start by making a simple shepherd-hook earring wire and spiral earring post. Then you will make two simple pairs of earrings by learning how to bend, twist, and bundle-wrap square wire. Next, make a simple five-wire bundle-wrapped earring using square and half-round wire. The last three designs will progress in degrees of difficulty. |
Learn how to twist square wire and cut jump rings while constructing this sparkling bracelet. The techniques for twisting square wire and winding coils for cutting will be demonstrated and practiced. The jump rings will be cut by the instructor from the student's coil. Students will then construct the bracelet using tarnish-resistant Argentium Sterling Silver and gold-filled jump rings. Most students will be able to finish and polish the bracelet in class. |
The distinction of well-made clasps and findings is in the design and details: simplicity, beauty, and functionality. This two-day applied technique class focuses on the aspects of finesse and the finishing touch of creating purposeful, handmade findings to complete and compliment jewelry designs. Learn the basic tools and techniques for making finely finished components directly in metal. Utilizing skills of forging, forming, bending, shaping, filing, sawing, and piercing, students will construct samples of clasps, bails, findings, links, attachments, and connectors in copper and fine silver. Instruction includes tips on design, functionality, making multiples, developing and refining the production process, along with useful information on studio organization and bench tips from a master goldsmith. |
